PLENA Smallholder Farmer Cooperative Documentation
Receipts for cooperative-society membership, contributions, harvest deliveries, and payouts. Built for the hundreds of millions of smallholder farmers worldwide whose economic life runs through cooperative societies whose internal accountability often breaks down at scale.
Opening problem
Smallholder agriculture worldwide operates substantially through cooperative societies — coffee cooperatives, dairy cooperatives, tea cooperatives, cocoa cooperatives, grain cooperatives. Cooperatives provide collective purchasing power, input distribution, output marketing, credit access, and political voice. They also have well-documented internal accountability problems: member-contribution disputes, payout disputes, leadership-election disputes, corruption of cooperative officials. PLENA Farmer Cooperative Documentation provides member-controlled receipts of contributions, deliveries, and payouts.
Five workflows PlenaProof covers
Membership and Dues Attestation
Receipts of membership, dues paid, and standing within the cooperative, held by the member rather than the cooperative office.
Harvest Delivery and Quality Documentation
Per-delivery video and ticket receipts: weight, grade, moisture, condition — as recorded at the cooperative weighing point, with the member's copy retained.
Payout Receipt
Receipts of payouts received against the season's deliveries, with the member's acknowledgment captured.
Election and Governance Documentation
Member-controlled documentation of cooperative elections, governance meetings, and votes taken — surviving the leadership transitions that frequently follow disputes.
Audit and Dispute Continuity
Cumulative documentation supporting cooperative audits and individual member disputes, accessible to the member across decades of cooperative participation.
Institutional version
Target partners: International Cooperative Alliance; National Cooperative Business Association; regional cooperative confederations; cooperative federations in major commodity-producing markets (coffee, tea, cocoa, dairy, grain cooperatives).
Same complement-not-replace disclaimer. PlenaProof does not adjudicate cooperative disputes, replace cooperative governance, or provide cooperative formation services. It produces the member-controlled receipt layer.
The 100-Year Operating Commitment
Cooperative members often participate across multiple generations. The receipts must remain accessible to the member and their successors across that arc — through cooperative leadership transitions, mergers, and dissolution events.
Why this differs
From NGO-supported cooperative governance programs (which provide top-down infrastructure under a specific program): PLENA receipts are member-controlled, portable across cooperative leadership transitions, and accessible to the member without requiring continued NGO or institutional cooperation.
Existing instruments this complements
- ILO Recommendation 193 on the Promotion of Cooperatives
- ICA Statement on the Cooperative Identity
- National cooperative society acts
What this does not do
PLENA Smallholder Farmer Cooperative Documentation does not adjudicate cooperative disputes. It does not replace cooperative governance. It does not provide cooperative formation services or registration. It does not hold cooperative funds. It documents.
